English champions Manchester United will face Wigan Athletic on August 11 for the 2013 Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

This fixture will be a great opportunity for the new Red Devils manager David Moyes to start his tenure as United boss with a victory and begin the Moyes revolution at Old Trafford. He has already started it on a positive note by signing young Guillermo Varela.

A victory over the Latics will not only make him at ease with the United hot seat but it will also be an encouraging way for players to approach the new season.

Recently, the Football Association confirmed Wembley Stadium as venue for this year’s decider as last year this fixture was moved to Villa Park due to the London 2012 Olympics.

For the first time in 28 years, Manchester United will be playing in this fixture without Sir Alex Ferguson as their manager. Thus, all eyes of the world will be on David Moyes when he leads them out for his first competitive game.

Surely, by that time, he will bring in some interesting recruits. Hopefully, we should see Robert Lewandowski and Cesc Fabregas wear the new Manchester United kit with bwin.Party as their shirt sponsor. The team had used some of that sponsorship money over the summer to secure Van Persie, a deal that has proved to make a big difference last season.

The FA, which is celebrating their 150th anniversary this year have granted United fans a ticket allocation of 35,000 while Wigan Athletic will have 15,000. Tickets for the game are available at £45, £35, £25 and £20.

Money raised from the Community Shield is distributed by The FA to charities nominated by all the clubs who played in the First Round of The FA Cup onwards from the previous season.

The 2013 Community Shield will indeed be a curtain raiser for the new English football season. If you’re a United fan, set the date in your calendar – August 11, with 2 pm being the kick-off time.
